中国革命是美国当代中国学中的重要主题，曾一度居于显学地位。伴随着美国中国学每一个阶段的发展，中国革命研究尤其能够体现美国中国学的发展状况和特点。美国中国学中的“革命主题”研究，深深受到中国国内形势、中国马克思主义史学话语、西方学术思潮、世界共产主义运动以及中美关系的影响，新资料的发现、新学术理念和方法的运用，都不断重塑着他们对中国革命的认识。从辛亥革命时期开始，美国中国学对中国革命的研究已有百年，学者辈出，成果累累，形成一个不容忽视的研究群体。从特点上看，美国学者的研究视野比较开阔，研究角度往往比较出新，研究方法比较综合，对中国革命的动因、背景、意义、后果以及一些具体人物和事件的看法有其特色。诚然，意识形态的分歧是必然存在和无可否定的，中国革命的伟大意义不容抹杀，但中国革命仍然是一切严肃认真的科学研究的对象，需要突破社会史、政治史研究模式，丰富和拓展我们自身对于中国革命的认识。本文拟对美国中国学中“革命主题”的研究历程做一简要回顾，分析其特点，评价其得失，以批判的眼光发现其可借鉴之处。
Chinese Revolution is a great event both in world history and Chinese history，for it has deeply shaped the fate of Chinese people and the trend of Chinese history，as well as deeply influenced the world pattern.So the American Contemporary China Studies，which is famous for its realistic attention to China Issues，is always taken Chinese Revolution as one of its most important topics.In the past decades there are many American scholars working on this field and they have made abundant achievements.The research on Revolutionary Theme has affected deeply by factors such as the inner situation in China，the Chinese Marxist historiography discourse，the trend of western scholarship，international communist movements，and the Sino-American relationship.New resource discoveries and applications of new scholarly concepts and methodology have continuously reshaped their views on Chinese Revolution.It should be acknowledged that American scholars work in this field with a comparably broader and newer vision，in a comprehensive ways，and they have raised much distinctive ideas about the causes，backgrounds，significances and consequences of Chinese Revolution，and also about some historical figures and events.Indeed there must be some ideological divergences between us on the view of Chinese Revolution，and the great significance of Chinese Revolution could not be obliterated.However the Chinese Revolution is still an objective for any serious scientific studies，which need breakthrough the patterns of social-political history in order to enrich and expand our understanding about Chinese Revolution.At this point，it maybe necessary for us to learn from American Studies of China with critical perspectives.
