绍兴是兰花的故乡。绍兴栽养兰花的历史悠久，有文字记载的始于春秋战国时期，这可以说是世界之最。我国现存最早由东汉袁康、吴平撰写的地方志《越绝书》中有：“勾践种兰渚山”的记载。园艺家非常欣赏绍兴兰花的护理方法。兰花不仅在中国深受欢迎，而且还出口到日本和东南亚国家。兰花是绍兴市花。
Shaoxing is the hometown of orchid.Its history in orchid breeding can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn period when the ruler Gou Jian of the State of Yue grew orchid in the Lanzhu Mountain.Orchid nursed in Shaoxing are much appreciated by horticulturists，and not only well received across China but also exported to Japan and Southeast Asian countries.Orchid is the city flower of Shaoxing.
绍兴是中国历史文化名城之一，也是著名的水乡、酒乡以及书法之乡，更是蔡元培、鲁迅、周恩来的故乡，毛泽东就曾赞言绍兴为“鉴湖越台名士乡”。
Shaoxing，one of Chinese historical and cultural Cities，as well as the famous town of rivers，wine，penmanship and hometown of Cai Yuanpei (a famous educator)，Lu Xun (a great writer)and Zhou Enlai (the first premier of pRC)，was once praised by Mao Zedong to be the “Jian Lake &Yuewang Tai Local Birthplace of Celebrityies”.
境内山地、盆地、平原等多种地貌构成了绍兴山明水秀的自然景观特色。“千岩竞秀”的会稽山、“幽意无断绝”的若耶溪、“绿水去何长”的剡溪，还有“连峰数十里”的沃洲山、“轰雷千尺破银河”的五泄瀑布，处处山川秀美、风光诱人。绍兴景观的代表鉴湖更是秀美宜人。宽广的湖面一平如镜，澄澈轻灵，体现出绍兴的灵气神韵。湖岸连连，直至水天极目之处。水上的乌篷船、路边的凉亭、朴实的船工、静卧的鸬鹚，无处不成景，无景不如画，时时刻刻演绎着水乡“小桥、流水、人家”的诗情画意。
Mountains，basins and plains constitute the natural beauty of the city.Kuaiji Mountain，Ruoye Stream，Shan Stream，Wozhou Mountain，Wuxie Waterfall are all excellent sceneries attracting people from everywhere.The most representative spot，Jian Lake，with its mirror like surface and crystal clear water，has perfectly represented Shaoxing’s spirit.The water that reaches up to sky，the floating Wupeng boat，arbor by the roadside，plain boatmen，resting Cormorants make everywhere a perfect sight，every place a poet of “bridge，rivers and folk house”.
此外，绍兴还是一座没有围墙的博物馆。点缀在青山绿水之间的人文景观更是光彩照人、千姿百态。气势不凡的舜王庙、历史悠久的越王台、翰墨飘香的兰亭以及见证陆游与唐琬爱情的沈园。它们无一不在默默历数着绍兴千年的文明历程。
What’s more，Shaoxing is a museum without walls around.And the human landscapes are embellished by beautiful mountains and rivers.The grand Shunwang Temple and Yuewang Tai show its spectacularity，the Lanting pavilion (Orchid pavilion)is surrounded by the sweet smell of the Chinese ink，and the ShenYuan has witnessed the love story between Lu You and Tang Wan.The things all above have proved the long history of Shaoxing.
绍兴是我国文学巨匠鲁迅的故乡，凝聚着浓郁的鲁迅文化地方特色。从《故乡》里的社戏到《孔乙己》中的茴香豆，乌篷船里头戴毡帽的船家摇桨踩橹，将人们带回了那段逝去的时光，在追忆先贤的同时，亦能深切感受到鲁迅为振兴中华民族精神所树立起的浩然正气。
Shaoxing，which is the hometown of a famous Chinese literature master-Lu Xun，features rich local character of Lu Xun culture.Things in Lu Xun’s novel，such as the Village Opera from the hometown，the Fennel Bean from the Kong Yiji，and the plot that the Wu peng Boat owner waving the oar bring people the feelings of the past days.We can find the healthy atmosphere brought by Lu Xun for the rejuvenation of our country；meanwhile we can recollect the history of our ancestor.
