四、语言模糊性的翻译
1．模糊法
模糊法指的是把表达模糊含义的英语译为含有模糊意义的汉语。例如：
The idea of an internal “body clock”should not be too surprising.If the 24-hour rhythm is interrupted,most people experience,more or less,unpleasant side effects.
体内“生物钟”的观点并不令人感到太大的惊奇。如果24小时的节奏受到了干扰，大多数人都或多或少地有种种不愉快的感觉。
This month 600 or so people have taken part in the IELTS.
这个月大约有600人参加了雅思考试。
The senator seldom took any bribes,did he?
该参议员很少受贿，是吗？

2．精确法
精确法指的是将英语中表示模糊意义的表达用表示精确意义的汉语表达出来。例如：
This means that a diesel shunter can work continuously right round the clock,if necessary,and that main line diesels can be rostered to continuous runs lasting for well over a day.
如果将“a day”译为“一天”，那么会导致语义模糊，读者有可能理解为“白天”，但是从“right round the clock”可以知道它实际上指的是“白天和晚上”，因此在译为汉语时应该将此模糊意义清晰化。译文为：也就是说，内燃调车机车能够不分昼夜连续运行。如果有必要，干线内燃机车连续运行时间可大大超过一昼夜。
Road-bed is the subgrade on which are laid the ballast,ties and rails.There are two types of it——cut and fill.It should be firm,well drained and of adequate dimensions.
如果将“dimensions”译为“面积”，“大小”都不够完整，译为“体积”也欠妥帖，形象性、直观性不够。因此，可将其具体清晰化以避免语义模糊。全句可译为：路基就是上面铺着道砟、枕木和钢轨的底基。路基有两种类型，即路垫和路堤。路基应坚固、排水性好并有足够的面积和厚度。
