第十二节 会议“主办”怎么译
一、译为Sponsor
从字面上看，Sponsor的主要意义是：名词——发起者，倡议者，主办者，保证人；动词——发起，倡议，主办；为……做保证人。英语的解释主要是：someone who supports or champions something；assume responsibility for or leadership of。
从很多日常用语来看，Sponsor的赞助意味很浓。例如：It is a pity that he doesn't have enough money to sponsor the project．(遗憾的是他没有足够的钱来支持这项计划。)又如：On American radio，advertisers often sponsor whole programs．(在美国电台上，广告客户往往资助整个节目。)因此，不少活动的赞助单位(或称赞助商)都用Sponsor来表示。例如，2008年北京奥运会赞助商，2008年国际翻译家联盟第18届世界大会的赞助商，都译作Sponsor。
因为有的展览会、经济交流会、招商会基本上是由政府或主办单位出钱资助的，进去参观的人很多时候是不用买票的。这种情况的Fair，一般用Sponsor表示主办，如云浮(国际)石材展览会，2007年珠澳投资环境推介暨经贸交流会，2008粤港经济技术贸易合作交流会。

(三)2007年珠澳投资环境推介暨经贸交流会
于2007年5月28日在珠海隆重召开的2007年珠澳投资环境推介暨经贸交流会由商务部投资促进事务局、广东省对外贸易经济合作厅、澳门贸易投资促进局、珠海市人民政府共同主办，由珠海市对外贸易经济合作局承办。
译文一：
The 2007 Zhuhai-Macao Seminar on Investment Promotion and Trade Exchange，the Trade Fair for short to be held on May 28 in Zhuhai，is co-sponsored by the Investment Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Commerce，the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province，Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute，and Zhuhai Municipal People's Government，and is co-organized by Zhuhai Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau and Zhuhai Foreign Affairs Bureau．
译文二：

(四)中非教育部长论坛
此次“中非教育部长论坛”由中国教育部与中国外交部、商务部联合举办，是“中非合作论坛”重要后续行动之一，也是在“中非合作论坛”框架内开展教育多边合作的一种新尝试，意义重大。借此次论坛契机，我们相互交流和学习，必将加深了解，增进友谊，进一步发展中国和非洲国家在教育领域的友好合作。

二、“主办”译为“Host”
Host，名词——主人，主办国，为某个庆典或事件提供设备和资源的人；动词——当主人招待，主办。如，“The city was chosen as host for the Olympic games”这个城市被选为举办奥运会的主办国。
用Host，一般表示“东道主”。由中国进出口商品交易会，中国国际高新技术成果交易会，常年定期举办的Fair，以及经过努力争取得到主办权的大会，如北京奥运会，国际翻译家联盟第18届世界大会，多用Host。
(一)中美产业技术合作高峰论坛
10月12日，由商务部主办的中美产业技术合作高峰论坛在第九届高交会上举行。商务部副部长廖晓淇、美国驻广州总领事金瑞伯出席主持论坛并致辞。本次论坛是由中国机电进出口商会和美国信息产业机构共同承办的。译文：Shenzhen(October 12)—Hosted by the Ministry of Commerce，the China-US Industrial Technology Cooperation Forum was held in Shenzhen，as part of the 2007 China Hi-Tech Fair．Vice-Minister Liao Xiaoqi and US Consulate General Robert Goldberg attended and addressed the event．The forum was cohosted by China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products and the US Information Industry Organization．

三、“主办”译为“Organizer”
Organizer一般表示组织者，建立者，筹办者。
值得注意的是，“中国国际工业博览会”的主办单位的构成和前面的“中国国际高新技术成果交易会”是一样的，但是，其主办单位的译法却大不相同，当“高交会”主办方为Host，承办单位为Organizer的时候，“工博会”的主办单位译作Organizer，而其承办单位则译为Show Management。在这种情况下，承办单位是一家“承办”Fair的专业公司。
