浙江自然博物馆的前身为创立于1929年的浙江省西湖博物馆，1952年被列为浙江博物馆自然部，1984年独立建制。作为国家级科普教育基地、省级爱国主义教育基地、省级科普教育基地的浙江自然博物馆集收藏、研究、展览于一身，馆内11万余件展品涉及动物、植物、古生物、矿石标本。
Being the successor of Zhejiang West Lake Museum founded in 1929，Zhejiang Museum of Natural history was designated as the Department of natural history in Zhejiang Museum in 1952，and started to develop independently from 1984on.It is a national science-popularization educational base，provincial patriotism educational base and provincial science-popularization educational base.The museum integrates the tasks of collecting，researching and exhibition.The more than 110，000pieces of collections cover a wide area of animal，plant，ancient creature and rock mineral specimen.
浙江自然博物馆举办陈列展览的目的在于宣扬唯物主义和无神论，普及自然科学知识，启发青少年和学生爱家乡爱祖国的热情，鼓励他们探索自然奥秘，宣扬科学精神。如今，该博物馆已经成为杭州市民社会教育的大课堂。
The purpose of its display and exhibition is to publicize materialism and antitheism，popularize knowledge of natural science and edify the youths and students’love for their home，to encourage their exploration of natural mysteries and advocation for science.It has already turned into a big social education classroom in local people’s lifetime.
