Dear Yuan Tan

I, and my town, have been much honoured to have been invited to participate in the 400th commemorative project, celebrating the life and works of Tang Xianzu and Shakespeare.

Stratford-upon-Avon Town Council would be pleased to be a partner in events organised in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon but cannot support the Mayor in visiting China at this moment. This is partly due to engagements already accepted on behalf of the Mayor and partly financial.

I am personally excited by the idea of a celebration of two great contemporary literary giants. I so enjoyed the performance of ‘Sword of Vengeance’, performed by the prestigious Beijing Company last year at the College in Stratford-upon-Avon.

As my Mayoral year comes to an end I wish this project every success and hope that we may be able to play a small part in building friendships and partnerships with you.

我和我的小镇很荣幸被邀请参加庆祝汤显祖和莎士比亚400周年纪念活动，以缅怀他们的生平和事迹。斯特拉夫德议会很高兴能成为在斯特拉夫德举办这样活动的合作伙伴，同时，市长代表以及相关部门将在举行活动这一刻出访中国。我个人对于庆祝两个伟大的文学巨匠的想法表示兴奋。我很喜欢由北京久负盛名的公司去年在斯特拉夫福学院出演的中文版《王子复仇记》，我希望这个项目取得圆满成功，并希望，我们在建立友谊和伙伴关系中发挥一定的作用。

The Mayor thinks a meeting would be a good idea and suggests Tuesday 22 June at 10.00 am at the Town Hall. It is a busy week for her and the Tuesday morning is the best option for us.
