12 你命不如他 Your Fate Is Not As Good As His

In the early Ming Dynasty Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang(朱元璋)would go for a walk after dinner. One day, after his dinner, the emperor walked aimlessly into the imperial college where he sat down and his kitchen servant gave him a cup of fragrant tea.

The emperor gulped down the tea to quench his thirst after drinking wine during dinner. The tea tasted very pure to him.He asked for another cup of tea. After the second cup,the emperor became completely relaxed and happy,as if he had left the world and had become an immortal. The cups of tea brought the emperor joy,and he had his men give the servant a valuable cap and belt.

The gift presentation caused a scandal among college students.Everyone complained about the unfair treatment.A person deliberately recited a piece of poems loudly in the college yard.He said,“Study hard for ten years alone under the window;it is not worth a cup of tea still!(十载寒窗苦读下,何如一盏茶!)”

The emperor laughed to himself and humorously responded,“You may have more ability than he has,but his luck is better!(他才不如你,你命不如他!)”
