Almost all dormitory buildings are located on university and college campuses.Campus dormitories are remarkably uniform in their outward appearance and furnishings，with communal shower rooms and laundry rooms.In many dormitories boiled water for drinking must be carried from a boiler room outside the dorm building.Although either four or eight students share a room in the dormitory，most students have found that with some imagination and effort，rooms can be decorated and arranged to suit individual tastes.
The dormitory community is cared by the shifu(师傅)，workers who clean the hallways and common rooms，distribute mail，and generally watch over dormitory residents and guests.Some of buildings have been built with better facilities，including private bathroom in each room.
