When extended family members decide that their union has become，for economic or social reasons，impossible to sustain，they will agree to divide their family's resources and create financially separate new families.Generally this occurs after a senior generation has passed away and left two or more brothers.Although there is natural affection between the brothers，differences in their economic circumstances，as well as the number of their children，often lead to arguments that are most easily solved by family division.Traditionally the family will invite an experienced mediator as the third party to help with this separation.He/she will write an agreement that the brothers have to follow.After the division，each of the new units becomes financially independent.They live apart，even though they occupy the same courtyard.Although the family division is always considered an unfortunate event，the union of the extended family still remains intact，and the new units continue their cooperation and mutual support，on account of the memory of the old generation and cultural value placed on their family.
