本文通过对2004—2009年美国之中国研究博士论文的出产高校、学科主题、导师背景和著者来源的定量分析，揭示近年美国之中国研究博士生教育的现状、博士论文的研究特点和可能的发展趋势。研究结果表明：这一时期有近250所美国大学或研究生院提交与中国研究相关的博士论文1 336篇；东北部、西部（尤其是太平洋地区）、中西部仍然是培养中国研究博士研究生的重要地区；博士论文的研究领域仍然集中在人文与社会科学所属学科，但是探讨与当代社会密切相关的护理、健康、医学、环境、工程、地质地理等方面的论文也增长显著；论文所涉主题呈现出跨学科、综合研究的特点；对中国问题的研究越来越引起非中国研究学者的关注；华裔学者似已成为美国大学目前和今后中国问题研究和教育的重要生力军，并必将对中国研究在美国的发展产生不可估量的影响。
This article shows the state of doctoral education on Chinese Studies in the United States，research characteristics and possible trends in dissertation writing by analyzing the geographic locations of the universities which produced the dissertations，the dissertation topics，the background of the advisors，and the origin of the dissertation authors.
The research results indicate that 250 universities or research institutes produced over 1 336 dissertations.Northeastern，Western（especially the Pacific coast area），and Midwestern regions still remain the important regions in educating doctoral students.The research areas of the dissertation continually focus on humanities and social sciences，however，the number of dissertations in areas that are closely related to today’s society such as nursery，health，medicine，environmental studies，engineering，and geology have been notably increased，so has been the trend towards cross disciplinary and comprehensive research.
More and more non-Chinese Studies scholars have paid attention to the research on Chinese Studies.Researchers with Chinese origin have been and will continue to be an important fresh force in Chinese Studies today and tomorrow and have an immeasurable influence on the development of Chinese Studies in the U.S.
